Council Election

APEGBC is governed by a Council of elected members and government appointees responsible for setting policy and overseeing the affairs of the Association as regulated by the Engineers and Geoscientists Act. Every year members have the opportunity to elect a President, Vice President, and a minimum of five Councillors to serve on APEGBC’s Council. As a member, your input is key to determining who you will see on Council representing you and 26,000 of your professional colleagues.

2011/2012 Council Nominees
Each year members elect a President, Vice President, and a minimum of five councillors.

In accordance with Bylaw 3 of the Association, there are two ways by which a member may be nominated to stand for Council election – by the Nominating Committee or in writing by any 25 or more members in good standing.

Nomination by 25 Members

Nominations for President, Vice President and Councillors may also be made in writing by any 25 or more members in good standing. Nominations made by 25 members in good standing require a Nomination Form - 25 Signatures signed by members making the nomination with the written consent of the nominee. As per bylaw 3(e), this document must be received by the Registrar at the Association office no later than Friday, June 24, 2011 by 5:00 pm

Desired Experience/Expertise

  • Recent volunteer work within APEGBC at the Committee, Division, Branch, or Task Force level
  • A minimum of five years practicing as a professional
  • Some experience at a policy & strategic level
  • Business and financial management experience
  • Volunteer work with other organizations
  • Ability to communicate effectively and act productively in a team environment
  • Pragmatic yet visionary
  • A desire and ability to lead others

The Council Election Brochure that accompanies the election ballot identifies the way in which the candidate has established eligibility for candidacy (through the nominating committee or through write-in support of 25 members).  Election packages will be distributed to all members in early September and the election count will take place September 30, 2011.

Nominations by 25 members must be received at the Association office by 5:00pm

Friday, July 15, 2011
Statement of Candidacy must be received at Association office by 5:00 pm

Friday September 2, 2011
Election package and ballots will be available online to all members by this date. Paper ballots available upon request.

Friday, September 30, 2011, 12:00 noon
All ballots must be submitted and received by noon.

Election results will be posted to the APEGBC website by Tuesday, October 4, 2011.
