BETTER HEALTH THROUGH INNOVATION
Nancy Paris PEng
9:00 am - 10:15 am
The role of engineering and technology innovation in better health is critical.  Whether in acute care, home and community care, occupational health and safety, or health promotion engineering plays a significant role in developing appropriate technology and systems that restore, maintain and improve our health.  This seminar will explore a number of medical devices and systems that Nancy Paris, Professional Biomedical Engineer, has worked on over the last 18 years in the health technology industry.  In additional to the actual technology she will focus on some of the ethical issues raised by these technologies as well as health issues solved by these technologies.

DEVELOPING YOUR LEADERSHIP BRAND
Tara Cree PhD
10:45 am - 12:00 pm
This session goes into depth about one of the most effective career management strategies - developing your own leadership brand.  A leadership brand is what you are known for - your reputation, your strengths, your principles - what distinguishes you from others.  By deliberately creating a brand that represents what you want to be known for, you don't have to live with a brand that others have developed for you, one that may not be flattering.

EXPLOITING YOUR ENGINEERING DATA, 3D STYLE
Bernadette Currie EIT, Sheryl Staub-French PhD
1:45 pm - 3:00 pm
Engineering designs are traditionally developed on paper in two dimensions to represent solutions for a three dimensional world. The efficiency and productivity gains of computer-aided design tools are well recognized and such programs are widely used by consulting and contracting engineers (e.g., AutoCAD, spreadsheets, etc). Examples highlighting projects from several disciplines will show how engineers can exploit 3D data to optimize a design for clients, contractors, customers and end-users, management and the receiving environment. Companies applying this approach on their projects can expect to gain a highly competitive advantage, particularly for complex projects, such as the design of the new Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre.
