THE SECOND LAW AND CLIMATE CHANGE – HUMANITY AS DISSIPATIVE STRUCTURE
William Rees PhD
3:30 pm - 4:45 pm
Ecology sees the 'human enterprise' as a far-from-equilibrium dissipative structure. It can grow and maintain itself in a 'far-from-equilibrium' (low-entropy) state only by consuming resource gradients found in nature and dissipating degraded energy and matter (entropy) into the ecosphere. Climate change is just one inevitable by-product of this irreversible process.
