TOWARDS A FRAMEWORK FOR PROFESSIONAL RENEWAL
Derek Doyle PEng
9:00 am - 10:15 am
Presented by Derek Doyle, Executive Director of APEGBC, this session will highlight the steps needed to achieve renewal of the professions of engineering and geoscience such that public protection is enhanced and the professions have earned the confidence and respect of, and appreciation by, the public, Government, the membership and other professions.

PROTECTING THE PUBLIC: WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
Timothy Smith PGeo EngL
10:45 am - 11:25 am
In a results based, professional reliance environment it is imperative for members to respect the public trust. Maintaining our professional competence, respecting practice boundaries and developing quality assurance programmes forms a large part of the foundation for this trust. In order for the public to have this trust in the professions, the Association and the membership must be more proactive in these areas. This presentation will remind members of their existing ethical obligations and discuss several measures/steps that Council is currently looking at to ensure the longterm sustainability of our ability to self govern.

CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT REQUIREMENTS FOR APEGBC MEMBERS
Janet Sinclair
11:25 am - 12:00 pm
APEGBC released the Continuing Professional Development Guideline last fall. Developed after extensive benchmarking of programs from other Canadian jurisdictions and other professions, it is designed to provide flexibility to meet members' unique requirements. This session will outline the types of activities and the amount of professional development that practicing members should be undertaking.

PRACTICING UNDER TILMA
Gillian Pichler PEng, Peter Mitchell PEng
1:45 pm - 3:00 pm
The Trade, Investment and Mobility Agreement between Alberta and B.C. will be fully implemented on April 1, 2009. One of its primary objectives is 100% mobility between provinces for Professional Engineers and Professional Geoscientists. What does this mean for your practice? How close are we to 100% mobility between provinces? Do the procurement provisions meet the professions' recommended practices for engagement of engineering and geoscience services? Attendees will have these questions answered and will gain insight into what APEGBC and APEGGA are doing to represent the interests of the public and the professions to government so that the TILMA is fully implemented in the best interests of all.

DIGITAL SIGNATURE AND ELECTRONIC SEAL TECHNOLOGY
James Blake PEng
3:30 pm - 4:45 pm
With more and more correspondence being in electronic form, it is becoming common for engineers and geoscientists to provide their reports and drawings in electronic format. APEGBC has established a task force to implement a system to permit sealing of electronic documents. James Blake, P. Eng., a member of this task force, will present some background information on digital signing of documents, and a specific implementation that APEGBC is considering using.
