Changes to the Engineers and Geoscientists Act

In Fall 2005, APEGBC staff approached the Ministry of Advanced Education about new legislation to replace the 51-year old Engineers and Geoscientists Act. The Ministry was not able at that time to undertake such a large project, but welcomed modernizing and “housekeeping” amendments. The Ministry itself had also identified portions of the Act that it felt needed to be updated, or made consistent internally or externally with other legislation.

2007 President's Awards - Call for Nominations

The Standing Awards Committee is actively seeking nominations for the 2007 President's Awards. With several award categories, this is an excellent way to honour a deserving colleague.  New this year is the APEGBC Young Professional Award, which aims to recognize a professional member under the age of 35 who excels in work-related achievements, and service to the professions and the community.

Nominations Invited for Forest Engineering Award of Excellence

The Forest Engineering Award of Excellence recognizes excellence and promotes cooperation and leadership in forest engineering. Nominees may be individuals, organizations or associations responsible for projects that demonstrate or represent outstanding accomplishments in forest engineering. The deadline for nominations is July 20, 2007.

Federal Contracts — An Invitation to APEGBC Members from the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises

Public Works and Government Services Canada and the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises invites BC-based engineering and geoscience firms to sign up for the SELECT database.  The database was created by PWGSC to invite firms to bid on real property opportunities for consulting contracts up to a value of $80,000 and construction contracts up to $100,000.

NRCan Provides Free Access to Digital Mapping Data

Users of topographic data will no longer have to pay to use digital versions of government maps and data.  As of April 1, 2007, Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) began providing this data free of charge over the Internet.
