Federal Contracts — An Invitation to APEGBC Members from the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises

Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) and the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises (OSME) invites BC-based engineering and geoscience firms to sign up for the SELECT database.

SELECT is an electronic database of approved suppliers providing construction, achitectural and egineering services as well as related maintenance and consulting services. The database was created by PWGSC to invite firms to bid on real property opportunities for consulting contracts up to a value of $80,000 and construction contracts up to $100,000. Contracts above these threshold amounts are advertised on MERX (www.merx.com).  Any size business, from sole proprietor/practitioner to large corporations are encouraged to register with the SELECT database.

Badrudin Moosa, Chief of Stakeholder Engagement for OSME says that many new projects are anticipated to come up within the current year, and that SELECT will be their sourcing system.  Registration in the database is simple and should take no more than 30 minutes.  “We have a dedicated staff member to help people register,” says Moosa. Registrations are generally activated within 24 hours.

PWGSC utilizes an automated vendor registration system that is based on a rotational system to ensure that members listed on the database are offered equal opportunities to provide quotes for projects. PWGSC uses the SELECT database to randomly generate candidates for contract opportunity.  Once the information list is generated, a limited number of candidates are selected and requested to submit tenders prior to the award of the contract.
