Bill 10 Proposes Changes to Engineers and Geoscientists Act

The Housing Statutes Amendment Act, 2008 (Bill 10) was introduced in the legislature on March 10 and proposes changes to the Engineers and Geoscientists Act, the Architects Act, the Local Government Act, Community Charter, and Vancouver Charter.

These amendments allow local governments to make bylaws to conserve energy and water, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve building accessibility for persons with disabilities. They also permit the Minister Responsible for Housing to designate an official to make binding interpretations of the BC Building Code. Additionally, the amendments authorize professional associations to create specialist designations in response to demand-side municipal and regional district bylaws. APEGBC is looking into this further and will determine what this will mean for the Association.
