APEGBC Members Encouraged to Participate in Professional Renewal Survey
Through a program of professional renewal, APEGBC intends to examine whether all of its programs are contributing to effective and responsible self-regulation that protects the public. The Professional Renewal Task Force would like to hear from members to determine which areas to examine, and which regulatory best practices to assess and implement. The survey is available online and takes approximately 12 minutes to complete. Changes to Qualification Route for Struct.Eng. Designation
As of June 30, 2008 the Interim Oral Exam will no longer be offered as a technical qualification route for the Struct.Eng. (Designated Structural Engineer) designation. Bill 10 Proposes Changes to Engineers and Geoscientists Act
The Housing Statutes Amendment Act, 2008 (Bill 10) was introduced in the legislature on March 10 and proposes changes to the Engineers and Geoscientists Act that authorize professional associations to create specialist designations in response to demand-side municipal and regional district bylaws.

Energy Efficiency Standards Regulation Enforcement for Line-Voltage Thermostats
Effective January 1, 2008, all thermostats used with line-voltage (120-240V) electric heaters, such as electric baseboards and fan-forced unit heaters, must control the room temperature within a maximum differential setting of 0.5°C and a maximum droop of 2.0°C, as per CSA Standard C828-06.

This special pictorial feature, published annually in the July/August issue of Innovation, showcases the diverse activities of BC’s professional engineers and geoscientists both at home and abroad. Submissions relating to all engineering and geoscience disciplines are encouraged. Members or companies may submit photographs of projects undertaken during the past 12 months, within or outside BC, employing APEGBC members.

Environmental Awards Submission Deadline Extended
The deadline to submit an award nomination for the 2008 Environmental Awards has been extended to April 30, 2008. These awards highlight the role of professional engineers and geoscientists in responsible environmental management. Awards are offered in two categories: 1) Concent and Assessment, and 2) Design, Construction and Monitoring. Geoscience BC Scholarship in Applied Geoscience
Geoscience BC will be awarding up to 10 scholarships in 2008 to students enrolled in master’s or doctoral earth science or geoscience programs and working on a mineral or oil and gas exploration-related thesis project in British Columbia. Each scholarship will be worth $5,000.00.
