The Association is currently seeking member ratification of a bylaw to increase the registered member fee to $335. Ratification of this bylaw is extremely important to allow the Association to adequately perform its regulatory responsibilities and duties under the Act.

BC Building Code - Seismic Safety Provisions Added for Mid-Rise Wood-Frame Construction
The Office of Housing and Construction Standards has adopted new BC Building Code requirements to increase the maximum building height for mid-rise wood-frame residential construction from four to six storeys. Changes to the code are effective as of Monday, April 6, 2009.

Professional Renewal Task Force Recommendations
The Professional Renewal Task Force (PRTF) was established to examine APEGBC’s processes with the goal of ensuring they function in the public interest and are consistent with the best practices of self-regulatory bodies. APEGBC’s Practice Review and Continuing Professional Development programs were recently reviewed by the task force, and the following recommendations of the task force were supported by Council at their March 13 meeting.

The Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME)’s Extended Producer Responsibility Task Group is consulting on two discussion documents and is seeking input from interested organizations and individuals.

AIBC and APEGBC have jointly formed working groups to deal with specialist designations in various areas of practice overlap. One of the working groups formed was the AIBC/APEGBC Certified Professional Program Specialist Designation Working Group (AIBC/APEGBC Joint CPPSD Working Group).

Memorandum of Agreement Between Engineers Canada and Engineers Ireland
As a result of a request to enter into a mutual recognition agreement from Engineers Ireland, Engineers Canada formed a team to carry out a review of the Engineers Ireland system of registering Chartered Professional Engineers and to negotiate a mutual recognition agreement at the full professional level.
