Ministers Falcon, Hansen and Coell to Speak at APEGBC Annual Conference

Minister of Transportation Kevin Falcon will be giving Friday’s keynote lunch address at the Association’s annual conference in Victoria, BC, October 12-14. Preceding him will be Minister of Economic Development, Colin Hansen — also Minister Responsible for the Asia-Pacific Initiative and the Olympics — who will be delivering Thursday’s breakfast keynote presentation. Murray Coell, Minister of Advanced Education will speak at Saturday’s Recognition Luncheon.

The Victoria venue for the annual conference provides a real opportunity for members to hear from, and interact with government on issues of shared importance. Kevin Falcon’s portfolio as Minister of Transportation includes ongoing initiatives of interest to the public, as well as to professionals. These include the Gateway project, highway improvement projects, and vehicle safety and enforcement. As Minister of Economic Development, the key issues for Colin Hansen’s ministry are also of significance to BC’s engineers and geoscientists: the projected skills shortage, internationally trained professionals, business development in Asia-Pacific and the export of professional services, and labour mobility.

Murray Coell, Minister of Advanced Education and Minister Responsible for Research and Technology will be the keynote speaker for Saturday’s Recognition Luncheon. His ministry addresses the areas of academic and technical skills training, continuing education and international education. Minister Coell was a speaker at last year’s Annual Conference and AGM in Richmond.

Peter Legge, President and CEO of Canada Wide Magazines & Communications, will also be speaking.

Because space is limited, anyone who is interested in attending these keynote addresses is encouraged to register soon to ensure availability.
