Two BC Engineers Win CCPE Scholarships
Two BC residents are among six Canadian engineers who recently shared $52,500 as the 2006 recipients of the Canadian Council of Professional Engineers (CCPE) national scholarships, which provide financial support to professional engineers pursuing advanced studies and research.
Andrew Wood, P.Eng. was awarded a $10,000 CCPE-Manulife Financial Scholarship to further his PhD studies in civil engineering. His doctorate research will focus on asset management of municipal water infrastructure.
Mr. Wood’s contributions to the profession of engineering are already noteworthy. A published author, he has given back to the engineering community by teaching environmental engineering courses at BCIT, acting as a guest lecturer at UBC, and delivering presentations at industry and professional association events. Mr. Wood has also been involved with APEGBC’s Municipal Engineering Division.
Conor Reynolds, P.Eng. was the recipient of a $7,500 CCPE-TD Meloche Monnex Scholarship to further his studies as a PhD candidate at UBC. He is applying his mechanical engineering background to identify ways to reduce the negative impacts of transportation emissions on public health and the environment in urban centres.
Following the completion of his PhD, Mr. Reynolds hopes to undertake an engineering position that will allow him to apply his interdisciplinary skills in engineering, policy, and health. Ultimately, he hopes to make a valuable contribution as a professor at a Canadian university. In keeping with his dedication to a sustainable future, Mr. Reynolds is also an active member of APEGBC’s Sustainability Committee.
