Volunteers Needed! APEGBC Launches Enhanced Career Awareness Program
Engineering and geoscience are important to BC’s future, and APEGBC wants to encourage students to consider careers in engineering and geoscience in order to ensure that the professions continue to thrive in the years to come.
With the aim of attracting the best and brightest students to the professions, APEGBC is pleased to announce the launch of an enhanced career awareness program. This includes:
- A brand new section of the APEGBC website that will provide elementary and high school students with education and career information, as well as hands-on activities that introduce engineering and geoscience concepts in a fun and interactive way;
- A new promotional video that profiles different careers in engineering and geoscience and introduces the professions as fun, exciting and rewarding careers;
- An updated career awareness brochure that highlights how engineering and geoscience enhance our lives and provides school and career information; and
- Continued support of educational events through booth attendance and promotional materials, sponsorship, and limited grants.
While many members currently support our career awareness initiatives by participating in events such as school visits and Popsicle-stick bridge building competitions during National Engineering and Geoscicence Week, demand for engineering and geoscience professionals is growing, and support is needed throughout the school year.
If you are proud of your profession, enthusiastic about your work, and enjoy talking to students and the public about engineering and geoscience, get involved in this vital initiative by signing up to be a Career Awareness Volunteer. You can choose which events and activities you’re interested in—from classroom presentations and tradeshow booth events to science fair judging and job shadowing.
APEGBC’s 26,000 members use their technical expertise, ingenuity, and vision to create real world solutions to today’s challenges. Visit our website to discover the many ways you can help the next generation of engineers and geoscientists discover their true potential!
