Membership Renewal Deadline is January 1, 2009
A reminder that under the Engineers and Geoscientists Act, the annual fee payment deadline is January 1, 2009. Please be aware that a $75 late fee will be levied on delinquent payments according to the Act. On March 1, anyone who has not yet paid their annual fee will be struck from the register.

Are you in Compliance with APEGBC’s CPD Guideline?
Starting in January 2010, APEGBC’s public online member directory will include a “Declared CPD Compliant” note, recognizing members who are complying with the CPD Guideline. In order to qualify, members must have completed and reported a minimum of 90 PDH over the previous three-year period.

New BC Building Code Energy and Water Use Standards
Members are reminded that new provincial standards for the energy and water efficiency of buildings came into effect on September 5, 2008. These requirements apply to all new construction.

New Requirements for Mid-rise Wood-frame Residential Construction to be Developed
The Office of Housing and Construction Standards has announced that new Building Code requirements will be developed to increase the maximum building height for mid-rise wood-frame residential construction from four to six storeys. These requirements will come into effect in January 2009.

City of Vancouver Regulatory and Permitting Review
The City of Vancouver Development Services Department is undertaking a regulatory review to streamline, update and eliminate conflicting regulations, and a review of permit processing. To help identify and prioritize areas for improvement, the City is conducting a survey of stakeholders, and is encouraging members to provide their feedback.

Engineers Canada Launches Marketing Campaign
Engineers Canada has launched a five-year promotional campaign to raise the national profile of professional engineering with key audiences. Goals for the first year of the campaign include encouraging parents to support their children in the study of science, improving employers’ understanding of the value of engineering licensure and the importance of hiring a professional engineer.
