National Engineering and Geoscience Week: February 27 – March 8, 2009
National Engineering and Geoscience Week (NEGW) is a Canada-wide celebration of the professions of geoscience and engineering, and the earth and applied sciences. This year, it will be held February 27 to March 8, 2009.
Events across the country provide excellent opportunities to raise public awareness of the significant contributions made by engineering and geoscience professionals, and highlight the exciting career opportunities available to young Canadians. APEGBC is adopting this year’s theme inviting today’s youth to “Design the Future.”
APEGBC Branches typically host a variety of NEGW celebrations—including Popsicle stick and spaghetti bridge-building contests, MathChallengers contests and E-Fest—at local malls and libraries. Popular events like these demonstrate some of the principles of engineering and geoscience while engaging the public and encouraging them to learn more about the professions.
To ensure success, these events require advance planning, dedicated volunteers, and plenty of enthusiasm. The time to start planning for the coming year is now. For ideas on how you can organize or participate in a National Engineering and Geoscience Week event, an NEGW Activity Planning Guide is available on our website at www.apeg.bc.ca/about/negw.html.
Every year, the enthusiasm and participation of hundreds of APEGBC members makes NEGW an annual highlight. Join your colleagues across the country in celebrating excellence in the professions and volunteer to help organize activities in your local area by contacting your branch. Branches are listed on the APEGBC website: www.apeg.bc.ca/branches/branches.html.
