Reminder to Renew Your Membership

Under the Engineers and Geoscientists Act, the annual fee payment deadline is January 1, 2010, after which a $75 late fee will be levied on delinquent payments. On March 1, 2010, anyone who has not yet paid their annual fee will be struck from the register.

Why do I have to be registered with APEGBC?
To practise engineering or geoscience in BC you must be registered. If you practise without being registered, not only are you practising illegally, you are also not legally entitled to your fees or salary.

Are there any changes related to the 2010 membership year?
A new Practice Declaration Form was implemented to provide more accurate information for use by the Association and the public regarding members’ industry of practice, field(s) of expertise, and whether consulting services are provided. This information is located in the APEGBC online membership directory at www.apeg.bc.ca/members/search.html. The online member directory will assist the private and public sector in better connecting with members and/or licensees to meet their needs.

All APEGBC members and/or licensees are strongly encouraged to complete the Practice Declaration Form. You can complete and return the form, or complete the process online during the membership renewal process under the Fee Payment menu option (or complete the declaration later by clicking on the Practice Declaration menu option in the Member Portal).

Are there any policy changes that I should be aware of?
In the fall of 2008, information on the new Return to Practice Policy was communicated to members. This policy sets out new requirements for reacquiring practice rights for members with “non-practicing” status at or after January 1, 2009. As such, professional members with non-practicing status have been billed the non-practicing reduced fee rate for 2010.

Members are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the requirements for return to practice so that they can make an informed decision in the event that they need to reacquire practice rights. Members are reminded that all practicing members must be able to demonstrate compliance with the current requirements of the Act and Bylaws, including competency with current practices.

The policy can be found at www.apeg.bc.ca/reg/docs/Return_to_Practice_Policy.pdf.

What do I need to do to renew my membership?
Members may remit their payment online, by mail or by fax. Payment submitted by employers must aslo meet the January 1, 2010 deadline.

Online payment is the fastest and most convenient way to renew your membership, update your contact information, complete the Practice Declaration, declare compliance with the APEGBC CPD guideline, make a contribution to the APEGBC Foundation or Benevolent Fund, and print an official income tax receipt. The 2010 online fee payment website can be accessed by clicking the “member log-in” button at www.apeg.bc.ca.

Where can I get more information on the renewal process?
Please refer to the document “2010 APEGBC Fee Information” in your fee renewal package sent by e-mail and/or mail in November. This document can also be downloaded from: www.apeg.bc.ca/annualfees.htm.

Can I apply for reinstatement if I chose to resign or am removed for non-payment?
Please be aware that if you wish to re-apply for membership, you will be subject to the Return to Practice Policy for professional members or the Reinstatement Policy for members-in-training. In addition, you will have to pay the outstanding annual fee, the $75 late fee, and associated administrative fee before being reinstated. More information is available at: www.apeg.bc.ca/reg/pengpgeoreinstate.html.
