Geoscience-related Words Now Restricted in Business Names
BC’s Corporate Registry has added 16 geoscience-related words and phrases to its restricted word list. Anyone applying to register a business name containing one of these words or phrases will be notified that it is restricted and they should contact APEGBC to obtain the appropriate consent for use.

The Deadline to Renew Your Membership is January 1, 2012
The deadline to renew your membership for the 2012 year is January 1, 2012. After this date, a $75 late fee will be applied, and on March 1, 2012, anyone who has not yet paid their annual fee will be struck from the register.

Don’t Forget to Indicate your CPD Guideline Compliance
During the membership renewal process, APEGBC asks members to indicate whether they have met the requirements of the Continuing Professional Development Guideline for the past calendar year. Member declaration of compliance provides the Association with a way to demonstrate to the public that its members are keeping up to date in their area of practice.

APEGBC’s Mentoring Program is actively seeking volunteers to mentor members-in-training (EITs/GITs) and applicants as they progress towards professional registration as an engineer or geoscientist.

The Province's Building and Safety Standards Branch is seeking feedback on a number of proposed changes to the BC Building Code. Members are encouraged to forward their comments by December 9, 2012 for inclusion in APEGBC's submission.

Reminder: Comments Invited on Proposed Changes to National Model Construction Codes
The Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes has invited APEGBC and its members to take part in the Fall 2011 public review of proposed changes to the 2010 National Model Construction Codes. Members are encouraged to forward their comments to the Building Codes Committee for inclusion in APEGBC's submission by December 9, 2012.
