Engineers vs. Architects Challenge for Canstruction 2007 – Engineers in the Lead!
Much as the days get longer as we head towards spring, so does the list of engineering teams signed up in the Engineers versus Architects Challenge in Canstruction® Vancouver 2007. “The engineers are definitely ahead in this challenge,” said Margo Paris, Chair of Canstruction® Vancouver 2007. The Engineers versus Architects challenge is first-ever friendly duel between the professions to determine which profession can turn out the most teams and win the most prizes.

Recently signed up the for Engineers are SNC-Lavalin and Read Jones Christoffersen. They join teams from AMEC, Fluor, Kerr Wood Leidal Associates, Levelton Consultants and Stantec. Captains from each team will gather at the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society on February 8 for a review of Canstruction® rules and design tips, and to see where the food used in their structures will eventually end up.
This year’s competition build is set for March 3, 2007, with a free public exhibition March 4 – 11, from 10 am to 6 pm, at the Cruise Ship Terminal at Canada Place in Vancouver. Admission to this event is free and food donations are strongly encouraged. Come out and vote for your fellow Association members to make APEGBC the winner over the Architectural Institute of BC in the Engineers versus Architects Challenge.
Team recruitment closes on February 16, and several sponsorship opportunities are still available including participation in the “Check-Mate Hunger” display as a “Corporate Canstructor.” A chessboard will be created out of non-perishable food, with pawns through knights available for donation. Ideal for those who are new to Canstruction, this opportunity features pre-designed sculptures available for building at the event. More information and pricing is available by calling Margo Paris at 604-731-9053 ext. 109.
