APEGBC President Will Address Members Via Webcast

On March 14, 2007, APEGBC will host “Protecting the Public…What Does It Mean,” a live webcast presentation by President Timothy Smith PGeo EngL. This free 1-hour seminar will be open to all Association members and will allow them to take advantage of this opportunity to try webcasting technology.

Since 2004, APEGBC has been using webcast technology to present selected seminars as part of its ongoing commitment to offer a wide variety of professional development events. Webcasting uses streaming technology to distribute information over the Internet to many viewers at once, enabling webcast seminar users to participate remotely, without leaving their home or office.

Webcasting combines a live video feed and an electronic version of the speaker’s presentation materials with the interactivity of a chat room and message board. Participants are able to view both the speaker and the speaker’s presentation, and can ask questions through a live chat.

Webcasting allows APEGBC to make its online seminars available to engineers and geoscientists worldwide. Webcast participants outside of the Lower Mainland have found this technology to be useful as it allows them to take part in seminars without any additional travel costs. It is also a useful option for local attendees because of the added convenience of not having to leave the office.

For more information on the “Protecting the Public…What Does It Mean” web seminar, as well as system requirements for participating in webcasts, and registration information, please visit www.apeg.bc.ca/prodev/events/protecting_the_public.html. Members are asked to register early, as space is limited.
