Sweden Ore Deposit Field Trip Open to Industry Members

The Society of Economic Geologists (SEG) Student Chapter at UBC is organizing a two-week ore deposit field trip to Sweden, April-May, 2007 (tentatively April 29 to May 13) and invites industry members to join them. Sites to be visited include operating Volcanic-Hosted Massive Sulphide (VHMS) copper and gold mines in the Skellefte district, stratiform base metal sulphide mines in the Bergslagen district, and Kiruna-type magnetite-apatite mines and the giant Aitik Cu-Au-Ag deposit in the northern Norbotten district.

Field trip participants will see examples of Sweden's extensive mining history, including several pegmatites, a REE mineral type-locality at Ytterby and a stratiform Cu-deposit at Falun that operated for more than a millennium.

The trip to Sweden is the 8th annual economic geology field excursion organised by the UBC SEG Student Chapter. These trips are specifically designed to showcase a broad range of economic deposits and have been popular with industry participants whose attendance makes the trip affordable for students.

Members of the mining and exploration community are invited to join the SEG Student Chapter for this unique opportunity, but spaces are limited. For further trip details and a detailed itinerary, a brochure is available at www.mdru.ubc.ca/home/resources/2007se.php.
