First BC Mineral Exploration Week Launched

British Columbia launched its first-ever Mineral Exploration Week from January 27 to February 2, 2008.

Speaking at the 25th annual Mineral Exploration Roundup conference in Vancouver on January 28, 2008, Minister of State for Mining Kevin Krueger made the announcement.  “This week, we celebrate the strong growth of BC mineral exploration and the contributions the prospectors and mineral exploration companies make to the economy and our communities,” said Krueger.

With over 100 projects with budgets in excess of $1 million, British Columbia’s mineral exploration activity climbed to an all-time high of nearly $416 million in 2007, up 57 % from the previous year.

Last year, 23 new mine development proposals were in the works. Exploration drilling, another strong indicator of activity and mine development potential was up over 5%.
