P.Eng. & P.Geo. Registration Resumes
The effect of a BC Supreme Court Judge’s September 21st, 2007 decision declaring one of APEGBC’s registration bylaws invalid has been delayed until March 21, 2008. This allows the Association to resume registration of professional members. Some 189 applicants affected by the September decision will be granted their professional designation as a professional engineer or professional geoscientist immediately.

Members Vote in Favour of New Registration Bylaw
APEGBC members have voted in favour of a new registration bylaw in a special bylaw vote. With 97% of the voters in favour of the new registration bylaw, it will now be sent for review by the Lieutenant Governor in Council. That process, if successful, will be concluded in early February 2008, after which the bylaw will take effect.

Foundation Recognizes Student Achievement with Scholarships
In 2007, the generosity of APEGBC members and BC Hydro enabled the APEGBC Foundation Trustees to award eleven $1,000 APEG-MAPS scholarships and ten $1,000 BC Hydro/APEGBC third-year scholarships to 21 university engineering and geoscience students.

Call for 2008 Annual Conference Presenters
APEGBC is currently seeking presenters for technical, business, managerial and personal development topics. Presentations should be 1 hour and 15 minutes in length. Presentations of 35 minutes in length will also be considered. Submissions are due by February 18, 2008.

As a part of research looking at the status of engineering technologists in Canada, members are invited to participate in an online survey. This research will form part of a doctoral dissertation that will examine the value, identity and recognition of engineering technologists in the marketplace.
