P.Geo. Takes on Extreme Challenge for Children’s Hospital

APEGBC Member Regan Chernish, P.Geo. is taking positive steps for an inspired cause.
Chernish, a Calgary resident, is running the Yukon Arctic Ultra Marathon on February 15, 2009 to raise funds for the Alberta Children’s Hospital, a facility that serves much of the prairies as well as a number of communities in south-eastern BC.

Chernish’s son, Samuel, was twice hospitalized, requiring emergency surgeries and extended stays in the Alberta Children’s Hospital. During these times, Chernish recounts, he was inspired by the resilience of the children there, and his own son’s positive attitude in adversity. He is now dedicating his marathon run to help raise funds for the Children’s Hospital, in the hopes of helping others: “As a professional geologist, I am proud to represent my profession in the public eye through worthwhile events such as this.”

Chernish will run the marathon distance event within the Yukon Arctic Ultra, an event that follows the Yukon Quest dog race course along the Yukon River from Whitehorse to Takhini Hot Springs. The gruelling course had only one finisher last year due to extreme conditions that included -40º Celsius weather.
