Online Voting for 2008/2009 Council Election and Bylaw Vote
On April 30, 2008 the Engineers and Geoscientists Act was amended to allow electronic voting. This year, APEGBC will carry out the 2008/2009 Council election and bylaw vote by electronic ballot. Members will be sent an e-mail in late August with instructions on the electronic voting procedure.

Annual Report to be Delivered Electronically
This year, the Association’s annual report will be distributed electronically to all members with an e-mail address on file. The annual report will be available as an Adobe PDF, and members will receive a link via e-mail to the document upon publication. Print copies of the annual report will be available upon request.

Structural Guidelines Released for Part 9 Buildings
APEGBC has released two documents relating to the design and construction of housing and other small buildings classified under part 9 of the 2006 BC Building Code (BCBC). The first is a guide for local authorities, homeowners and developers. The second, intended for professional engineers, is the Guidelines for Professional Structural Engineering Services for Part 9 Buildings in British Columbia.

Council Approves Forest Engineering Experience Guideline
APEGBC’s Council approved the Guideline for Satisfactory Engineering Experience in the Forest Engineering Discipline: Required Competencies for Application of Theory. This is the sixth in a series of discipline-specific guidelines that interpret APEGBC’s satisfactory engineering experience requirements for applicants applying for registration as professional engineers.

The 2008 National Survey of Engineers and Engineering Technicians and Technologists has now been launched and professional engineers are encouraged to take part. The survey will provide important information on trends that affect the engineering profession.

Discipline & Enforcement
Disciplinary Hearing – Ken Dextras, P.Eng., New Westminster, BC
A matter was referred to the Investigation Committee by the Practice Review Committee of the Association concerning Mr. Dextras’ failure to provide the Practice Review Committee with certain documents. The Investigation Committee looked into the matter, but no replies were received to its letters to Mr Dextras. The Investigation Committee recommended that an inquiry be held regarding Mr Dextras’ failure to respond to its request for documents and information.

Dr. Anthony A. Salway, P.Geo., Nelson, BC
Dr. Salway signed a Stipulated Order in November 2005. In 2007, Dr. Salway commenced proceedings in the BC Supreme Court challenging the Stipulated Order process generally and certain issues particular to his Stipulated Order. On June 20, 2008, the Court dismissed Dr. Salway’s lawsuit.
