Norman B. Keevil Institute of Mining Engineering Created at UBC

A $7.5M gift to UBC’s mining engineering program from Teck Cominco Limited and its partners has led to the creation of the Norman B. Keevil Institute of Mining Engineering, named in honour of the former president and CEO of Teck Cominco Ltd.

Currently, UBC has BC’s only mining engineering program. This financial boost to the university’s mining engineering program will increase its capacity for education and research. It will also support infrastructure upgrades and faculty recruitment.

Dr. Norman B. Keevil is an inductee to the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame, and is a recipient of an honorary LLD degree from UBC. He is also a Lifetime Director of the Mining Association of Canada.

The Norman B. Keevil Institute of Mining Engineering is online at www.mining.ubc.ca.
