Council Approves Sustainability Action Plan
At its April 25 meeting, Council approved an Action Plan introduced by the Association’s Sustainability Committee. The action plan is designed to promote and support sustainability in members’ practices.
Sustainability is the concept of utilizing physical, natural and social resources to meet existing needs without compromising the well being of future generations and the global ecosystem. Council supports leadership in sustainability practice as a part of APEGBC’s mandate, which is the protection of the public and environment in the domains of engineering and geoscience.
The action plan incorporates findings from an online survey conducted by the Sustainability Committee in 2007, which solicited feedback from APEGBC members regarding their views on sustainability in engineering and geoscience. The results of the survey were used to direct the plan towards the needs and interests of members.
The education of APEGBC members, committees and staff will be a key priority of the action plan. Acting in an advisory capacity to other committees, the Sustainability Committee will recommend ways to incorporate sustainability considerations in a variety of Association activities and programs.
The Sustainability Committee’s action plan is available here on the APEGBC website.
