Professional Renewal Survey Results

In its first phase of consultation, APEGBC's Professional Renewal Task Force sought members' input through a survey on a broad range of subjects being considered in the development of a strategy for professional renewal. Over 5,400 APEGBC members took the opportunity to share their thoughts about the process of review and renewal. The results of that survey are now available.

Changes to Qualification Route for Struct.Eng. Designation

As of June 30, 2008 the Interim Oral Exam will no longer be offered as a technical qualification route for the Struct.Eng. (Designated Structural Engineer) designation. BC Codes and Practices Exam Scheduled for November

Current and future Designated Structural Engineer (Struct.Eng.) applicants are reminded that the next sitting of the BC Codes and Practices Exam will be scheduled for late November. Please be advised that in order to sit for this exam, you must have submitted all necessary documentation supporting your Struct.Eng. application (application, work details and completed references) prior to the application deadline in October.

Contractual Limitation Period

On May, 7, 2008 the British Columbia Court of Appeal unanimously upheld two British Columbia Supreme Court decisions that held that, based on a limitation clause in a standard client architect agreement, the client could not bring an action against the architect more than six years after substantial performance of the work.

During the next several months, the National Professional Practice Examination Advisory Committee will conduct a thorough and extensive review of the Professional Practice Examination syllabus. Professional engineers and professional geoscientists are being sought to participate in focus groups that will review the examination.

At its April 25 meeting, Council approved an Action Plan introduced by the Association’s Sustainability Committee. The action plan is designed to promote and support sustainability in members’ practices.

Landfill Gas Regulation Intentions Paper for Consultation

The Ministry of Environment is in the process of developing the Landfill Gas Regulation under the Environmental Management Act. The ministry's objectives and the proposed contents of the regulation are provided in a policy intentions paper for consultation. The deadline to submit comments is September 15, 2008.
