Engineers Without Borders Mount Public Transit Campaign
On March 1, volunteers from 32 Engineers Without Borders (EWB) chapters across the country participated in a public outreach campaign to convey a message about what Canadians can do to eliminate extreme poverty.
Volunteers in major cities across the country, including Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec and Halifax, hand-distributed over 70,000 copies of the mock newspaper “Canadian Horizon” dated 2025, with articles detailing the actions taken to end poverty, focusing on the roles that individuals and Canada as a nation can play in ending extreme poverty.
Locally, orange t-shirt-clad volunteers from the Vancouver Professional, Simon Fraser University, and University of British Columbia chapters of EWB handed out 11,000 newspapers at transit stops and other hubs throughout the Vancouver area.
Engineers Without Borders works in developing communities to promote human development through access to technology. The organization partners with developing communities to help build the capacity of their technical sector, raises awareness about how individuals can make decisions that positively impact communities overseas, and encourages government to take on a leadership role in alleviating poverty.
