Environmental Awards - Call for Submissions
APEGBC's Environment Committee encourages submissions for the 2009 Environmental Awards, which highlight the role of professional engineers and geoscientists in responsible environmental management. Awards are offered in two categories: Concept and Assessment, and Design, Construction and Monitoring. The deadline to submit is March 27, 2009.

APEGBC is pleased to invite nominations for the sixth annual Sustainability Award. The award is open to any project that has demonstrated a commitment to, and understanding of, the concept of sustainability and/or has applied one or more of the Sustainability Guidelines. Disciplinary Hearing – Edward Kai Yuen (Ed) Lim, P.Eng., Burnaby, BC
Ed Lim, P.Eng. was served with a Notice of Inquiry alleging four charges of unprofessional conduct. An inquiry was held on October 21-23, 2008 and the Discipline Committee Panel issued its decision on liability on November 13, 2008.

Appeal from Disciplinary Decision – Dr. Anthony A. Salway, P.Geo, Nelson, BC
In the March/April 2008 edition of Innovation we reported a decision of the Association’s Discipline Committee finding Dr. Salway liable of unprofessional conduct. Dr. Salway was reprimanded and ordered to pay $16,373 towards the Association’s legal costs. Dr. Salway appealed that decision to the BC Supreme Court.

Foundation Recognizes Student Achievement with Scholarships
In 2009, the generosity of APEGBC members and BC Hydro enabled the APEGBC Foundation Trustees to award 11 APEG-MAPS scholarships and 15 BC Hydro/APEGBC fourth-year scholarships to 26 university engineering and geoscience students.

Forest Engineering and Geoscience Bursary Available
The Division of Engineers and Geoscientists in the Forest Sector (DEGIFS) is pleased to offer a $2,000 bursary in 2009. This bursary is intended to provide financial assistance to a student in an accredited post-secondary or post-graduate program at a degree-granting institution in BC who intends to apply for registration as either a professional engineer or professional geoscientist upon completion of their studies.
