BC Safety Authority Issues Directives on Elevating Technology and Gas Technology
The BC Safety Authority has issued new directives on elevating technology and gas technology, respectively:
Directive D-L2 060309 2 on Buried Hydraulic Systems (dated March 9, 2006) was issued in response to the failure of a number of hydraulic systems in BC and other jurisdictions. It is being issued to licensed elevating device contractors to clarify requirements with respect to buried hydraulic systems. This directive brings together the requirements for buried hydraulic systems in CAN/CSA-B44 Safety Code for Elevators, and specifies additional requirements with respect to buried hydraulic systems.
Please note that t his directive supercedes Directive D-L2 060307 1, and replaces and updates Technical Bulletin 99-001 issued under the former Elevating Devices Safety Act.
Directive D-G5 060310 1 on Terms and Conditions for a Gas Utility Operating Permit (Dated March 10, 2006) was issued in response to requests to follow-up on the safety of gas utilities that distribute gas through a large network to many customers, or to those that supply to a small number of customers ( e.g. a strata, or a residential subdivision.)
The Authority is requiring owner/operators of a gas utility to obtain an operating permit under section 28(1) of the Gas Safety Regulation. This directive specifies the terms and conditions that are attached to operating permits issued to gas utilities.
