CCPE Approves Revised National Guideline on the Environment and Sustainabilty
The Canadian Council of Professional Engineers’ (CCPE) Board of Directors approved the revised National Guideline on the Environment and Sustainability at their February board meeting.
The national guideline was developed by the Canadian Engineering Qualifications Board, and Environment and Sustainability Committee and is an adaptation of APEGBC’s Guideline on Sustainability, and the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists, and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA)’s Guideline on Environmental Practice.
The Guideline is intended to provide further understanding of the professional engineer’s role and responsibility with regard to the environment and sustainability, particularly the integration of the principles of environmental protection and long-term sustainability into all disciplines of engineering work. It provides a definition for sustainability and sustainable development, and encourages engineers to take a leadership role in promoting these principles.
