2006 BC Building Code Seminar: Major Changes to Structural and Geotechnical Design Provisions in BC Building Code

The recently released 2006 edition of the British Columbia Building Code contains significant revisions in the provisions for structural and geotechnical designs.  APEGBC will be presenting a one-day seminar on June 21, 2007 in partnership with the BC Building Policy Branch

The 2006 edition of the Code uses a new objective-based format. The objectives describe the overall goals that the Code’s provisions are intended to achieve, and all requirements in the Code are linked to one or more main objectives. The session will present the major changes in the provisions given in Part 4 of the Code.  Participants will gain a high-level understanding of the changes and specifics of the changes, which will be of use for carrying out designs and reviews.

Seismic design will be emphasized and current, updated information on liquefaction design will also be presented.  Topics will also include revised load combinations in limit states design and changes in snow and wind loads.  This technical seminar will be of benefit and interest to building designers, structural engineers, geotechnical engineers and geoscientists.
