GEERing Up! Offers an Engaging Science Experience for Kids
Forensic science sleuthing, fun food science, solar powered cars, and team boat building are ways in which UBC Science students are making science, engineering and technology both entertaining and accessible for kids in Greater Vancouver. GEERing Up! UBC Engineering Science for Kids is a non-profit program operated by UBC engineering and science students that offers workshops and camps for students in Grades 2 through 10 at the UBC Point Grey campus.
During May and June, GEERing Up! offers full-day workshops at schools in the Lower Mainland, and in July and August, summer camps are available. These weeklong camps offer a mix of science, engineering and technology demonstrations, hands-on-projects, and design competitions.
GEERing Up! is a member of Actua, a national network of organizations dedicated to teaching children about science and technology. APEGBC is proud to be a sponsor of the GEERing Up! program, in support of fostering interest in the applied sciences, as well as awareness of career choices in engineering and geoscience.
