Electronic Voting Available for Council Elections This Year
On April 30, 2008 the Engineers and Geoscientists Act was amended to allow electronic voting. The electronic ballot will be launched in August for the 2008/2009 Council Election and bylaw vote. This medium of delivery is more environmentally friendly, and provides the benefits of cost savings. Paper ballots will still be available upon request.

Structural Engineers Required to Check Qualifications of Welded Steel Fabricators and Erectors
Engineers involved with steel structures and metal building systems are reminded that fabrication of welded steel structures and erection of steel structures where field welding is involved must be performed by fabricators and erectors that have been certified by the Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB).

Division of Environmental Professionals Founded
The Division of Environmental Professionals (DEP) was recently formed. This new APEGBC division’s overall goals are to advance environmental engineering and environmental geoscience. If you are an APEGBC member working within an environmental field and wish to join, free membership in DEP will be available for the remainder of the 2008 calendar year.

APEGBC Renews of MOU with IStructE
APEGBC recently renewed its Memorandum of Understanding with the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE). The purpose of the agreement is to set out the terms of use of the IstructE Membership Examination by APEGBC to qualify candidates as Designated Structural Engineers and to articulate the intention of both parties to work towards recognition at the full professional level for APEGBC members who have successfully completed the examination.

Notice – Lawrence A. Lambert, Ladysmith, BC (Former Member)
A complaint was made to the Association regarding a comment made by Mr. Lambert and published in a local newspaper concerning the testing by an engineering company of Mr. Lambert’s company’s product. The matter was investigated by the designated reviewer and was referred to the Investigation Committee, which conducted an investigation and recommended that an inquiry be held.
