National Engineering Summit Looks Ahead

Canada’s first National Engineering Summit will be held May 19-21, 2009 in Montreal, Quebec. This three-day summit will introduce delegates to the current and future conditions within health, the environment, safety and security, competitiveness in a global economy, and quality of life. Sessions will examine the national and global issues facing each sector, and will allow for an in-depth examination and discussion of each issue.  Each of these streams will have an opportunity to report and recommend future directions to the engineering community.

Hosted by the Canadian Engineering Leadership Forum, the conference will bring together representatives from Engineers Canada, the Association of Canadian Engineering Companies, the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE), the Canadian Federation of Engineering Students (CFES), the Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC) and the National Council of Deans of Engineering and Applied Science (NCDEAS). Summit objectives aim to identify methods through which Canada can deliver engineering innovativeness to the global community; specific engineering services required in the future to attain a health, safe, clean and sustainable environment; areas where advocacy by the engineering profession can contribute to public policy; and areas of education reform that will accelerate engineering learning, research and development.

The conference venue is the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth in Montreal, Quebec.  More information, as well as online registration, is available at www.engineeringsummit.ca/.
