National Engineering and Geoscience Week: Discover the Engineer or Geoscientist in You
With the 2006 Annual Conference behind us, we look ahead to upcoming Association activities in the new year, including the much-anticipated National Engineering and Geoscience Week (NEGW), to be held February 24 to March 4, 2007.
Events across the country provide excellent opportunities to raise public awareness of the significant contributions made by engineering and geoscience professionals, while highlighting the exciting career opportunities available to young Canadians. APEGBC is adopting this year's theme, inviting the public to “discover the engineer or geoscientist in you.”
APEGBC Branches and Divisions typically host unique NEGW celebrations – like the Popsicle and spaghetti bridge building contests, the MathChallengers contest, and E-Fest – at local malls and libraries. Popular events like these demonstrate principles of engineering and geoscience while engaging the public and encouraging them to learn more about the professions. However, to ensure success, these events require lots of energy, advance planning and volunteers, so it's important to get started now!
As in the past, NEGW inserts will appear in many regional publications. Engineering and geoscience companies are encouraged to support these special features by purchasing an advertisement in their local supplement. The final size of the supplements and the amount of editorial content will be determined by the support received from interested firms. For further information, please contact Tracy Frazer at 604-412-4879 or tfrazer@apeg.bc.ca .
As the event draws closer, be sure to visit the APEGBC website for more information on activities or volunteer opportunities at your local Branch. A complete listing of events will be included in the January/February 2007 issue of Innovation.
Every year, the enthusiasm and participation of hundreds of APEGBC members has made NEGW an annual highlight. Join your colleagues across the country in celebrating excellence in the professions by volunteering to help organize activities in your local area.
