APEGBC Election Results - 2006/2007 Council

The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC is pleased to announce the election of a new President and members of Council for the 2006/2007 term. They join five continuing councillors as well as three government appointees. Incoming President Timothy Smith, P.Geo., Eng. Meet the President - Timothy Smith, P.Geo., Eng. L.

Timothy Smith P.Geo., Eng. L., began his 2006/2007 term on October 14 at the Annual Conference in Victoria. A member of Council for three terms (2001/2002, 2002/2003 and 2005/2006) and with extensive experience with APEGBC through several committees, boards and task forces, his service to the Association has brought him to a place where he hopes to effect positive, strategic change.

APEGBC Launches New Program to Recognize Members' Continuing Professional Development Activities

Over the past year, APEGBC Council and the CPD Committee have sought feedback on the implementation of a formal CPD program. During this time, members provided input on their professional development activities and the proposed structure of the program. The feedback received was considered in the development of the new CPD Guideline, which was approved by Council at their September 8, 2006 meeting. The new CPD guideline outlines the types of activities and the amount of professional development that practicing members should be undertaking.

Limited Licence Task Force Report

The findings of APEGBC's most recent Limited Licence Task Force were presented to Council in September. The final report made 17 significant recommendations that were all, with one exception, approved by Council.

2006 Annual Conference Highlights Real World Solutions

Beautiful weather accentuated APEGBC's 2006 Annual Conference and AGM from October 12 - 14, 2006 at the Victoria Conference Centre. Six hundred and eighty-nine conference delegates attended the 2006 Annual Conference for professional development, networking, a two-day trade show and the Association's 87th Annual General Meeting.

End Hunger Through a Friendly Challenge

In its fifth year, Canstruction® is an international design/build competition that brings together engineers, architects, students and other designers to create structures entirely out of non-perishable food which is later donated to local food banks. This year APEGBC has issued a challenge to the Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC) to determine, by popular vote, whose membership can build the best structure out of non-perishable food.

Stipulated Order - J. Blair Evans, Vancouver, B.C.

A Notice of Inquiry was issued by the Association alleging that Mr. Evans demonstrated unprofessional conduct in his signing and sealing blank sheets of paper and in soliciting and securing a contract to provide engineering services in competition with his employer. In lieu of proceeding to an inquiry, Mr. Evans accepted a Stipulated Order admitting that he was in breach of the Engineers and Geoscientists Act.

Stipulated Order - Dr. Anthony A. Salway, P.Geo., Vancouver, B.C.

A Discipline Committee of the Association, under authority of the Engineers and Geoscientists Act (the “Act”) offered a Stipulated Order to Dr. Anthony Salway in lieu of proceeding to an inquiry, following the investigation of a complaint concerning reports he had prepared for the Kootenay Lake District office of the Ministry of Forests in 2002. Dr. Salway accepted the Stipulated Order on November 14, 2005. The penalty accepted by Dr. Salway included that his work be peer reviewed for a period of 12 months from the date of the Stipulated Order and that he undergo a general and technical practice review.
