Meet the President - Timothy Smith P.Geo, Eng. L.
Timothy Smith P.Geo., Eng. L., began his 2006/2007 term on October 14 at the Annual Conference in Victoria. A member of Council for three terms (2001/2002, 2002/2003 and 2005/2006) and with extensive experience with APEGBC through several committees, boards and task forces, his service to the Association has brought him to a place where he hopes to effect positive, strategic change.

Professional Practice
Mr. Smith received his Bachelor of Science in Applied Geology from the University of New South Wales in 1987 and a Graduate Diploma in Advanced Forest Engineering from the University of British Columbia in 2000. He also holds an APEGBC limited licence in engineering for terrain stability and is licensed in Alberta and Washington State as a Professional Geoscientist. With 17 years consulting experience as a Professional Geoscientist, Tim consults to resource and transportation industries, mining companies, government, engineering and legal firms in Canada, USA, Scotland and Australia. His area of expertise is in slope hazard assessment, geotechnical investigations and risk analysis.
APEGBC Priorities
“My idea in going into this presidency is that there's a certain amount of assessment to be done, and then a determination of what's important. For me, this is a strategic plan. There are a lot of things that Council has talked about doing over the past few years, and my priority will be to execute what we've talked about.”
Professional Philosophy :
“I believe in maintaining competency and only doing the work that one is capable of doing. The public has granted us the exclusive right to practice and with that comes an obligation on the part of the professions to ensure that the public is protected. I believe that CPD will be a part of this process. There is no excuse for not meeting minimum CPD requirements.”
Personally Speaking :
