Reminder to Renew Your Membership
Under the Engineers and Geoscientists Act, the annual fee payment deadline is January 1, 2009 compared to December 31 in recent years.
Members should be aware that a $75 late fee will be levied on delinquent payments according to the Act. On March 1, anyone who has not yet paid their annual fee will be struck from the register.
Questions and Answers
Q1: Why do I have to be registered with APEGBC?
A: To practise engineering or geoscience in BC you must be registered. If you practise without being registered, not only are you practising illegally, you are also not legally entitled to your fees or salary.
Q2: Are there any policy changes related to the 2009 membership year?
A: Yes, please note that a new Return to Practice policy sets out new requirements for reacquiring practice rights for members who are of “non-practising” status at or after January 1, 2009. The policy can be found at www.apeg.bc.ca/reg/docs/Return_to_Practice_Policy.pdf. Members are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the requirements for return to practice so that they can make an informed decision in the event that they need to reacquire practice rights after January 1, 2009. Members who wish to change their status to “practising” before January 1, 2009, are only required to state their preference on the fee renewal notice and pay the full practicing fee of $303.45.
Members are reminded that all practising members must be able to demonstrate compliance with the current requirements of the Act and Bylaws, including competency with current practices.
Q3: What do I need to do to renew my membership?
A: Members may remit their payment online, by mail or by fax. Members may also submit their 2009 annual fee invoice to their employer for payment.
Online payment is the fastest and most convenient way to renew your membership, update your contact and demographic information, make a contribution to the APEGBC Foundation, and print an official income tax receipt. The 2009 online fee payment website can be accessed by clicking the “member log-in” button at www.apeg.bc.ca.
For employer payments, please submit your 2009 annual fee invoice for payment as soon as possible, and inform your employer of the January 1, 2009 payment deadline.
Q4: Where can I get more information on the renewal process?
A: Please refer to the document “2009 APEGBC Fee Information” in your fee renewal package sent by e-mail and/or mail in early November.
Q5: Can I apply for reinstatement if I am removed for non-payment?
A. Anyone who is struck will have to apply for, and meet the conditions for, reinstatement. Before being reinstated you will have to pay the annual fee, the $75 late fee and the $250 reinstatement fee.
