Canadian Associations Adopt Common Geoscience Registration Requirements

APEGBC and the other provincial and territorial licensing bodies that form the constituency of the Canadian Council of Professional Geoscience (CCPG) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the use of mutually agreed upon requirements for registration as a professional geoscientist in Canada. Under the MOU, the provincial and territorial associations have agreed to move to a system where all candidates accepted for registration will have demonstrated geoscience knowledge and experience equivalent to that set out in CCPG’s Geoscience Knowledge and Experience Requirements for Professional Registration in Canada. The associations will also advise each other of their status towards that goal.

This MOU follows on work undertaken earlier by the Canadian Geoscience Standards Board, a standing body of CCPG, to revise documentation on the requirements for professional geoscience registration in Canada. This resulted in the above-mentioned Geoscience Knowledge and Experience Requirements for Professional Registration in Canada, a consensus-based framework for education and work experience expectations for admission into the profession of geoscience.
