Nominations Sought for 2007 Heritage Awards

The City of Vancouver is seeking nominations for its 2007 Heritage Awards, which recognize the special efforts and accomplishments of individuals and organizations that have contributed towards the City’s goal of heritage conservation.

The Awards comprise an important part of the City’s Heritage Conservation Program, which was initiated in 1983 to identify, conserve and create awareness of the Vancouver’s built heritage. Under the awards program, anyone may submit a nomination for:

  • restoration, rehabilitation, adaptive re-use or continued maintenance of a heritage building, a significant interior of a heritage building, or characteristic features of a heritage building
  • use of innovative engineering techniques or restoration/conservation methods in upgrading a heritage building(including seismic upgrading)
  • preservation of a heritage landscape
  • advocacy by a group or individual in preserving a heritage site or increasing public awareness of heritage issues
  • publication, education or exhibit that promotes heritage conservation
  • efforts in community or neighbourhood revitalization.

Projects must have been completed within the past five years and must not have previously received a City of Vancouver Heritage Award. The deadline for nominations is Friday, November 10, 2006.  For more information visit www.vancouver.ca/heritage.
