APEGBC Prepares for National Professional Mobility
APEGBC continues to advance the mobility of professional engineers and geoscientists in Canada, and as such has met the requirements to be in compliance with the British Columbia-Alberta Trade, Investment and Labour Mobility Agreement (TILMA) and the Agreement on Internal Trade (AIT).
The Association has incorporated its registration requirements into a draft TILMA Labour Mobility agreement that was approved in principle by APEGBC Council in June 2008. Subject to proof of good character, APEGBC is able to accept all professional engineer and professional geoscience Canadian transfer candidates, thus providing complete national mobility to those registered elsewhere in Canada whose membership is in good standing. These efforts build on existing inter-association mobility agreements (IAMA) through Engineers Canada and the Canadian Council of Professional Geoscientists.
It is important to note that while these agreements facilitate national mobility, professional engineers and geoscientists* must still be registered in all provinces in which they practice.
APEGBC looks forward to working with its counterparts across Canada to attain full reciprocal mobility in accordance with the Agreement on Internal Trade.
*Geoscience is not a regulated profession in the Yukon.
