Extension of Professional Practice Exam Essay Option
In June, Council approved a policy on English Language Competence for Practice; however, concerns were raised by applicants and members that exam candidates were not provided with enough warning of the new policy, taking away their opportunity to be assessed by the essay. To accommodate the transition to the new policy, applicants will have the essay option for the Professional Practice Exam for the next three Professional Practice Exam sessions.

Deadline to Update Annual Billing Contact Information
Members who have recently changed their mailing and/or e-mail address should note that they will need to update their member contact information by Friday, October 23rd in order to receive the 2010 Annual Fee Renewal Invoice and Information. The fee renewal package will be e-mailed out in late October, while the Canada Post renewal package will be mailed mid-November. Members are strongly encouraged to provide a current e-mail address in order to minimize postage, printing, and other costs. The "online only" fee renewal process is the most efficient and environmentally friendly way of renewing membership, and over 12,000 members have already elected to receive the 2010 fee renewal package by e-mail only.

Request for Comment on Draft Guidelines for Terrain Stability Assessments in the Forest Sector
The APEGBC/ABCFP Joint Practice Board has prepared draft APEGBC/ABCFP Guidelines for Terrain Stability Assessments in the Forest Sector and is seeking feedback on the document. The deadline to submit feedback is November 2, 2009.

Professional Renewal Task Force Report Now Available
The Professional Renewal Program--an Association-wide quality assurance initiative--was developed in consultation with members and other major stakeholders. Using information gathered through member surveys and research on best regulatory practices, a total of 38 recommendations were made and brought forward to Council. This report documents the work of the task force and provides details on its recommendations.

Revised ACEC Agreement Document Available
The Association of Canadian Engineering Companies has revised its Document 31, Engineering Agreement Between Client and Engineer. The new document is a major rewrite of the previous 1996 version, and was prepared for small- to medium sized projects which may lead to construction and where the engineer is either the lead (prime) consultant involved in the project.

Opportunity for Internationally Trained Engineers to Receive Iron Ring
Camp 23 of the Corporation of the Seven Wardens is planning to conduct its first ever autumn iron ring ceremony at the University of Victoria, November 10, 2009, if a sufficient number of UVIC graduands confirm their attendance.  If the ceremony proceeds, the Corporation would be pleased to once again present Iron Rings to internationally trained professional engineers and engineers-in-training who are currently registered with APEGBC and who would be able to attend this Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer Ceremony.
