Digital Signature and Electronic Seal Technology Set to Launch September 15

APEGBC is partnering with Notarius Inc. to offer digital signature and electronic seal technology to members. This technology will become available as of September 15.  Use of the technology will allow APEGBC members to electronically preserve, transmit and sign electronic documents, files or e-mails to clients, owners, municipalities and others. All professional seals recognized by APEGBC as specialist designations (e.g., CP, Struct.Eng.) can be used with the digital signature technology.

Canadian Objective-based Electrical Code Approved

The Canadian Standards Association has approved two standards: C22.4 No.1 Objective-based Industrial Electrical Code (OBIEC) and the accompanying C22.4 No.2 OBIEC Safety Management System – Requirements. These standards are intended for use by authorized industrial users as an alternative to the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC).

The APEGBC Foundation offers a number of scholarships to engineering and geoscience students attending BC universities. Court Dismisses Complainant’s Challenge of Investigation Committee Decision

In a recent court decision, a BC Supreme Court Justice denied an application by a complainant to review a decision of the Association’s Investigation Committee not to recommend a disciplinary inquiry. The judge accepted the Association’s argument that the wording of the Engineers and Geoscientists Act does not provide a complainant with the right to challenge a decision of the Investigation Committee.

Extension of Landfill Gas Regulation Consultation

The Ministry of Environment is in the process of developing the Landfill Gas Regulation under the Environmental Management Act. The ministry's objectives and the proposed contents of the regulation are provided in a policy intentions paper for consultation. The deadline to submit comments has been extended to September 30, 2008.
