Business Resource Centre

As engineers and geoscientists you have been taught the technical aspects of your practice. But what about the business aspects?

These pages have been developed to serve as a business resource for APEGBC members who are sole proprietors or small firm principals. Here you will find resource articles about different aspects of your business, such as "Managing Risk Rather Than Bad Debt," and "Creating A Business Plan." You will also find information on upcoming professional development events that are business focused and professional practice resources such as APEGBC's Professional Practice Guidelines, Fee Guidelines, professional liability insurance information, and Compensation Survey results.

Another resource is a list of tools for small businesses. Links to information on financing, taxation, business registration, the Workers' Compensation Board and many other useful sites can be found here.

Through dialogue with sole practitioners and small firm principals APEGBC has learned it can be useful for practitioners to interact regularly with others in similar situations to exchange ideas and to get frank feedback on business issues. To facilitate this interaction, APEGBC has launched a monthly Business Resource Group. This group will meet in-person or via teleconference under the guidance of a professional business coach.

Sometimes it can be useful to discuss business plans and issues with an expert in a confidential setting. Visit the Business Coaching Service page for a list of professional business coaches.
