This session explores the evaluation of building damage conditions, particularly the assessment of risk of entry and occupancy from damage after an earthquake. In addition, evaluation and risk assessment of building damage from wind, flood and fire will be discussed.

Robert A. Bruce, Applied Technology Council, Redwood City, California
Mr. Robert Bruce is an affiliated Senior Associate at Wiss, Janney, Elstner & Associates, Emeryville, California. There he directs various design, investigation, research and publication projects related to seismic adequacy of buildings.
Mr. Bruce has Masters Degrees in Structural Engineering and Architecture from the University of California and is a registered Structural and Civil Engineer in California.
Mr. Bruce has thirty-five years' experience in structural engineering design, investigation and construction and he served as a post earthquake safety evaluation engineer after the California earthquakes in Coalinga in 1983; Morgan Hill in 1984; San Francisco in 1989; Cape Mendocino in 1992; Los Angeles in 1994; and Lima, Peru in 2007. He also served as a post-landslide safety evaluation engineer in Oakland after the 1998 winter rains.
Active since 1984 in developing procedures and writing and editing documents for post earthquake safety evaluation of buildings, Mr. Bruce has presented the ATC-20 post earthquake safety evaluation methodology more than 300 times to over 8000 seminar participants.
