Seminar

This seminar is a comprehensive one day classroom-based session.  It will detail the current state of the industry as well as recent innovations and advances.  The session will overview the theory, fundamentals and causes of erosion and sedimentation, but focus on the reasons for poor ESC practices and performances that are so prevalent today and how to achieve the results we need. We will explore some of the more common practices and review their most appropriate uses and most applicable characteristics.  We will demonstrate the processes and procedures all practitioners should employ in the preparation, implementation, and execution of erosion and sediment control plans and contracts.

This session is appropriate for civil and environmental engineers, designers, field staff, project managers, regulatory managers, and all those active in the ESC industry.  Find out how to consistently meet the governing guidelines, regulations, and bylaws, using fundamental concepts and approaches, and save yourselves and your clients the time, money, and frustration.  Learn how to do ESC right!

Instructors

James Kay, P. Eng., Aplin & Martin Consultants Ltd.

James Kay is a consulting civil engineer serving the land development and municipal engineering sectors throughout the Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley, Sunshine Coast, and Okanagan. As a Professional Engineer and Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control, James has designed and consulted on hundreds of erosion and sediment control plans for subdivisions, commercial developments, townhouses and apartment projects.

With a focus on sustainability and green infrastructure, James brings depth and experience in hydrology and hydraulics, as well as current Best Management Practices and Low Impact Development strategies. James is well versed in the federal and provincial legislation, as well as local municipal bylaws governing erosion and sediment control.

Ed van Osch, B.E.S., M.R.M.CPESC

Ed van Osch is an industry-recognized leader in environmental monitoring, assessment and resource analysis. Since 1995, Ed has managed numerous linear, urban and resource development projects for government and industry. Ed’s project portfolio includes successful completion of a number of large and small scale projects for forestry, oil and gas, resource development and government clients.

Since 2004, Ed has delivered our environmental and erosion control training courses to over 1500 NREP course participants throughout Canada. Ed has previously taught environmental courses at Simon Fraser University and Capilano College.

Cancellation Policy

Registered attendees unable to attend the event may designate a substitute, provided APEGBC receives written notification at least one business day prior to the event. Registration information for the substitute attendee should accompany the notice. If notice of cancellation of registration is received:

•  5 business days or more prior to the event, a refund will be processed
•  Less than 5 business days prior to the event, no refunds apply

Substitute registrants are permitted up to the day of the seminar and member/non-member fees will be applied. The organizers reserve the right to cancel the event if less than the minimum required participants have registered. Liability limited to registration fee.
