Seminar

This workshop is specifically designed for engineers with little or no experience with finite element analysis (FEA) methodology. The workshop will be presented in two parts.

The first part covers the concept and fundamentals of FEA, its basic concepts and mathematical formulation. The goal of this segment is to familiarize the participants with the basic steps involved in setting up models and performing the analysis, and to discuss the interpretation of the results along with the possible sources of error.

In the second part of the workshop, the participants will gain hands-on experience in setting up and analyzing finite element models of some basic case studies, and verifying their predictions with available analytical solutions.

A copy of ABAQUS SE will be provided for each participant.

Participants must bring their own laptop. ABAQUS SE currently runs on the PC platform only.

Instructor

Dr. Ali Shahkarami is a Senior CAT Risk Modeler at Risk Management Solutions. He has over 10 years of experience in Finite Elements Modelling of various structural systems. His graduate studies at the Department of Civil Engineering, UBC, heavily involved material constitutive model development and finite element simulation of ballistic impact events.

APEGBC is an AIBC/CES registered provider offering an AIBC-Accredited activity for 6.5 Non-Core Learning Units.
