Seminar

This seminar briefly reviews some of the changes in the relevant for fire suppression Standards from the current Building Code referenced Standards to the latest Standards issued by NFPA. The topics in the presentation will include:

• Pressure reducing requirements for standpipe systems

• Standpipe zoning and related fire department connection requirements

• Comparison with sprinkler (NFPA 13) zoning requirements

• High storage sprinkler design options:

Decision process - multiple options but will focus on three choices:

A) Standard LO sprinkler at roof with or without in rack sprinklers
B) ESFR sprinklers
C) NEW: Specific Application Control Mode Sprinkler

An overview of the options, advantages, limitations and problems of each. A detailed design summary procedure with a step by step methodology will be presented for designing a Control Mode sprinkler system.

• Seismic requirements - new NFPA requirements, comparison with British Columbia Building Code and Vancouver Building By-law requirements

• Other important changes

Murray Johnson, M.Sc., P.Eng., CP - Murray Johnson Engineering Ltd.

Murray Johnson has been involved in Fire Protection Engineering and Code Consulting for the past 30 years and has been a Certified Professional since 1990. Murray developed and taught the Fire Suppression course throughout the duration of the M.Eng. programme in Fire Protection Engineering offered at U.B.C.


Cancellation Policy

Registered attendees unable to attend the event may designate a substitute, provided APEGBC receives written notification at least one business day prior to the event. Registration information for the substitute attendee should accompany the notice. If notice of cancellation of registration is received:

•  5 business days or more prior to the event, a refund will be processed
•  Less than 5 business days prior to the event, no refunds apply

Substitute registrants are permitted up to the day of the seminar and member/non-member fees will be applied. The organizers reserve the right to cancel the event if less than the minimum required participants have registered. Liability limited to registration fee.
