The new Green BC Building Code has been in force since September 2008. All new buildings in British Columbia now require low flow plumbing fixtures, as well as energy performance compliance to meet ASHRAE 90.1-2004 Energy Standards. The energy performance requirements have significant impacts on architectural, mechanical, and electrical designers. This seminar will serve to outline these major changes, and then explain with examples how Building Projects will be affected by the energy performance requirements. The HVAC system fundamentals of building envelope thermal performance will be reviewed, with examples and technical issues required to comply to the ASHRAE 90.1 Energy Performance standard. This seminar is not intended to be a detailed ASHRAE 90.1 compliance course, but to provide a background of the fundamentals of HVAC calculations and building design approaches required to understand the new energy performance requirements.
This seminar would be of interest to Mechanical Engineers/Designers, Electrical Engineers/Designers and Architects.
Geoff is a senior mechanical engineer responsible for developing institutional and sustainable projects including complete mechanical design project management, design execution through to construction services, and site inspections. His background has provided a wide range of experience in design and construction, as well as project management, for a large number of institutional projects. Geoff specializes in very low energy semi-passive building systems including radiant cooling, displacement ventilation, and high performance building envelope design. He has been practicing as a consulting building services design engineer for over 28 years, and is a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professional.
Geoff is also the author of a number of papers and articles covering radiant cooling systems, in-slab radiant systems, displacement ventilation systems and other sustainable building approaches. He also keeps in regular touch with the few other North American designers who are designing and building thermo-active slab systems and radiant cooling systems to maintain an informal information sharing network.
APEGBC is an AIBC/CES registered provider offering an AIBC-Accredited activity for 2 Core Learning Units.
