Seminar Description

Sustainability is at the forefront of our minds.  Governments and world leaders are strategizing to address urgent global issues around sustainability, in particular climate change. Issues facing our society encompass water shortages, fossil fuels use, material depletion, waste disposal, air quality, and land use.

The built environment has a significant impact on all these issues. As engineers, being part of the building industry we have a challenge, opportunity and responsibility to be part of the solution. However we need to “walk the talk”. It’s important that as we find sustainable solutions in our building design that our business practices reflect the same values we are promoting. In addition government and provincial legislation is compelling the business world to look at their carbon footprint and implement change. We all ‘want to do the right thing’ but identifying and putting a plan into practice in our business lives is not always simple.

This ½ day workshop will provide ideas, solutions and future direction for companies wanting to green their practice. We will explore and define a roadmap to assist your journey so your personal and business values match and you stay ahead of the curve.

This workshop will interest and benefit engineers in public or private sectors, in both management and employee positions.

Participants in this workshop will learn and explore the following topics:

  • What are the drivers/benefits to greening our companies?
  • Aligning business and values
  • Identifying and overcoming barriers to change
  • From ideas to implementation and evaluation; Practical roadmap for implementing change
  • How to engage and challenge; management, staff and building owners
  • Business case for moving/renovating green; statistics on values, health and productivity
  • Meeting government, provincial and regional mandates; carbon neutrality, net zero waste, etc.

Instructor:
